Capabilities
With nearly four decades of professional experience in the Washington Metropolitan area, Rostand (Roxanne) Edwards, AIA formed her own firm in early 2009 after serving as lead design architect for several prominent area firms. Her diverse career portfolio, which incorporates residential, hospitality, retail, performance and office building experience, has provided her an opportunity to solve many different design problems, seeing each project with a fresh viewpoint.
During the first half of her practice, Ms. Edwards designed institutional projects for medical and university clients, including being on the design team for the P/A Design award winning school project in Saudi Arabia for the Ministry of Petroleum and Minerals. Among other major projects are a new 800 bed teaching hospital for the prestigious King Abdulaziz University, a major addition to Duke University Hospital’s Surgical Unit and Burn Care Unit, a prototype psychiatric care hospital, a performing arts center for Lafayette College, and several large urban scale master plans.
Since the mid eighties, Ms. Edwards has focused on large scale mixed-use planning and architectural projects such as Plaza America in Reston, VA, Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia and The Centura in Dallas, Texas, and a new two theater performing arts center and conservatory of music for Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia.
With a focus in mixed use in smart growth development and new concepts in multifamily housing, she has been involved in the design of a number of projects such as high-rise apartments and mid-rise condominiums in Arlington at Courthouse Plaza and Pollard Gardens; The Parc Connecticut near Van Ness Metro in DC; and the first phase of The Warwick in Crystal City. Since 2001, Ms. Edwards has been involved in numerous multifamily low and mid-rise designs, both for condominiums and rental properties such as Georgetown Heights and Inigo’s Crossing, prototype designs for community planning and in master planning for mixed-use projects like Broadway Arts Center in Long Branch, New Jersey.
Her primary responsibility has been developing initial design concepts and planning for projects, especially in the preliminary stages and then been responsible throughout the course of these projects to create the design and maintain its intent and integrity to project completion.
